How to clean the negative energies with salt

Greetings, dear seeker. I am Amira Asmodea, here to share with you one of nature’s simplest yet most potent gifts for spiritual cleansing: salt. Throughout the ages, salt has been treasured—not just in your kitchen—but as a tool to purify the spirit and protect the soul from the burdens we sometimes carry. Today, I will walk you through a gentle, meaningful way to wash away those unseen energies, helping your mind and body to feel lighter and clearer.

How to clean the negative energies with salt

Why Salt?

Salt is more than a seasoning. In many spiritual traditions, it is believed to absorb and neutralize negative vibrations or energies that accumulate around us, whether from stress, encounters, or unseen influences. It works wonderfully to cleanse your aura—the subtle energy field surrounding your body—and to unblock your chakras, those energetic centers crucial for your well-being.

In my experience, a salt cleansing done mindfully and respectfully can refresh your spirit and leave you feeling more balanced and protected.

The Simple Salt Water Ritual to Cleanse Negative Energy

This ritual is quite potent, so I advise you to perform it no more than once a month. The best time is on a Friday close to the full moon, when energies are ripe for cleansing and renewal.

You will need:

  • A large bowl or basin
  • Three generous handfuls of natural sea salt (table salt lacks the minerals needed)
  • Three liters of water

Preparing your sacred cleansing water

Begin by holding your salt in your right hand, the hand of energy and intention. Place the salt into your bowl with care, focusing on your intention to release what no longer serves you.

Next, pour the water in. It’s traditional to use one liter of boiling water mixed with two liters of cool water. The warmth helps dissolve the salt and carries the cleansing power.

Blessing your water

Before using the water, it helps to bless it—this invites a higher energy into your ritual and sets a spiritual tone. You might say, aloud or silent in your heart:

"Dear God, in the name of your Lord, please bless this water with your holy spirit, so that all negative energies and spirits move away from my body and do not return to touch it."

Following this, recite the Our Father, a traditional prayer that grounds your practice and calls for divine support:

Our Father,
who art in Heaven,
hallowed be Thy name,
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done
on earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.

Amén.

Performing your salt cleansing bath

Once your bathing time arrives—after your usual bath or shower—gently pour or splash this holy salt water over your body, starting from the neck down. Never pour over your head or face, as this can be too intense energetically.

As you do this, say this simple blessing aloud:

"Dear God, in the name of your Lord, please clean me with this holy water and Holy Spirit clean all the negative energies, and evil spirits from my body and my life now."

Afterward, repeat the Our Father prayer once more. Then, dry yourself lightly with a towel but do not rinse off the salt water—allow its presence to linger on your skin, working its magic slowly as the water evaporates.

From personal experience, doing this cleansing at night holds a special power; your body can rest and integrate the cleansing energy while you sleep. If you can, let the water dry naturally on your skin wherever possible during the day too—it prolongs the protection.

Adapting to your beliefs

Spirituality is a personal path. Depending on your tradition, you might choose to use a different prayer or simply speak your own heartfelt words of intention. What matters most is your sincere wish to release negativity and invite peace and light into your being.

What to expect and common questions

Many practitioners notice a feeling of lightness, calm, or even emotional release after such a cleansing. These sensations differ from person to person—some may feel energetic shifts, others might simply feel refreshed.

Here are some questions often asked by those new to this ritual:

Can I do this cleansing more often?

This salt bath is strong, so once a month is recommended. Doing it too frequently might disrupt your natural energy balance.

Why avoid pouring on the head?

Salt water on the head can be overwhelming to our sensitive energy centers above the neck, especially the crown chakra. It’s safer and kinder to treat the body below the neck.

What if I don’t have sea salt?

Sea salt is preferred because it contains natural minerals thought to enhance spiritual clearing. Table salt works in a pinch but isn’t quite as potent.

Can this ritual replace other spiritual practices I do?

It’s best seen as a complement to your existing practices—helping to clear energy blockages so your other rituals, meditation, or prayers can flow more freely.

A little whispered wisdom

Salt as a guardian and cleanser reminds us of the sacredness in everyday things. What begins as something ordinary—the salt on your table—can become a bridge to the spiritual, a helping hand in times of heaviness or confusion.

May this ritual bring you renewed strength and serenity, my dear. And as always, I invite you to explore more of our shared journey with ancient rituals, herbal magic, and the mysteries of the unseen here on this website.

How to clean the negative energies with salt is but one doorway. Step through gently and return anytime you seek the calm touch of salt’s ancient grace.
