Rituals with candles to soften rough people

Greetings, dear soul. I’m Amira, and over many moons, I’ve come to understand that relationships, even those closest to our hearts, can sometimes feel like thorny paths. Especially when it comes to in-laws, tensions easily rise, and words can sting sharper than we wish. Yet, with a little gentle magic and intention, you can soften even the most stubborn edges.

Let me share some candle rituals that have helped many in my circle bring ease and warmth where there was coldness or discord.

Ritual to End the Malicious Comments

At the heart of this ritual is the desire to transform harsh words and negativity into a shield of protection. Under the waning Moon — that time where energies wane and it’s fitting to let go of what no longer serves — you’ll perform this ceremony with just a few simple items.

Ingredients
  • 2 white candles
  • 1 container filled with Earth (soil from your garden or a natural source works beautifully)
  • 1 jar with water
Rituals with candles to soften rough people

Place the white candles standing upright in the container of soil, aligned side by side. Light the candles from the same flame — symbolizing unity and harmony — and then slowly pour the water onto the Earth, moistening it as you focus your intent. As you pour, softly speak:

“Now the fire protects me.
Who speaks ill of me shall find their own strength turned inward.
May their words reflect back harmless and powerless.”

Once the Earth is suitably damp, gently extinguish the candles by fanning with a steady wind (or a gentle breath that carries away negativity). Take the soil and candle remnants to a running water source, such as a stream or river, and release them there. This act carries away the harmful energy, allowing the water's flow to cleanse and purify.

Ritual to Strengthen Affection between Two People

This ritual is tender and hopeful, aimed at deepening bonds of affection, like those between a daughter-in-law and mother-in-law. Choose to perform this on the birthday of the person whose heart you wish to soften.

Procedure:

At sunrise, hold a fresh rose in your hand and recite quietly or aloud:

“At the dawn of this day, may the smile fall gently upon [name of your mother-in-law], and may warmth and kindness grow therein, never to fade.”

Give her the rose shortly after as a birthday offering, a symbol of your sincere kindness and desire for harmony. In my experience, such symbolic gestures open hearts more swiftly than forceful words ever could. It’s a small seed of peace, tenderly planted.

Ritual to Change Negative Mothers-in-Law

Sometimes, difficulties seem to root so deep in the nature of our relationships that a little more focused magic is helpful. Here’s a ritual dedicated to smoothing those rough edges and inviting love’s gentle power into your connection.

Ingredients
  • Pink garment (wear something soft and kind, pink is a color of love and compassion)
  • White tablecloth
  • A pair of scissors
  • A candle
  • Stick of rose-scented incense
  • Ribbon of pink fabric
  • White rose

Dress in your pink garment to immerse yourself in loving energy. Arrange a quiet space with the white tablecloth laid out, placing the scissors, candle, and pink ribbon neatly before you. Light the incense and focus deeply.

Offer the white rose as a token to the goddess of love — often known as Venus — asking for her help in gently removing the "thorns" of tension and difficulty represented by the rose’s prickly edges. With the scissors, carefully snip away each thorn, and for every one, name softly any hurts or strains you feel: envy, coldness, misunderstanding.

As you cut, say:

“By the power of the goddess of love,
I declare away all bitterness and sharp words,
Let kindness bloom instead.”

When all thorns are removed, tie the ribbon around the now thornless rose. Carry this symbol of softened tension to a flowing body of water — a river, a stream, or if necessary, a still pond nearby — and gently release it there. Let the water carry away the hard feelings, planting peace in its place.

Simple Rituals to Protect Yourself from Harsh Words

Sometimes, the spirit needs shields, subtle yet effective, to stand firm amid prickly conversations. You can mentally draw a pentagram — a five-pointed star often used as a symbol of spiritual protection — or cross your arms or legs softly while talking with challenging people. These small acts help create an invisible boundary, a reminder to yourself to stay centered.

Another simple method is to make noise with your keys or gently ring a bell, such as one modeled after the rattlesnake's sound, to clear away any lingering unpleasant vibes around you. The ringing acts like a bell in a quiet temple, dispelling heaviness and inviting fresh energy.

Remember, dear one, that these rituals are less about forcing others to change and more about transforming your relationship with tension itself. Through intention, gentle symbolism, and a heart open to peace, you invite softened moods and kindness to take root.

May these candles light your way toward gentler connections and warmer hearts.

Thank you for sharing this space of understanding and care with me. If these whispers of magic spoke to you, I invite you to explore more of our spells and rituals here — for love, money, healing, and harmony. Until then, may your path be gentle, and your spirit bright.
